Meeting someone new in health care can be a little daunting, I have taken time to address some of the questions you may have prior to visiting Unravel.

We have painstakingly, yet proudly converted our garage into a warm and inviting clinic space. Given this is a residential area we ask for parking in the driveway or on the nature strip in front of our property, number 1, to ensure respect to our neighboughs'.
-
The clinic space can be located at the end of the driveway through the glass sliding door. If the prior appointment is wrapping up, please enter quietly and help yourself to a carefully selected range of herbal teas and allow your mind to unravel a little before we help your body.
-
Unfortunately, it is hard to live life without them, however you can bring your full attention to your appointment by switching your phone on silent and respectfully not using within the clinic space.
-
Whilst we love a keen bean, please try to arrive within 5 minutes of your appointment. We operate without reception so if you find yourself waiting, please enjoy the wait space and help yourself to a carefully selected range of herbal teas. Please kindly respect the client prior to you, as my wait space is not fully soundproof.
-
The clinic space is one level with a small threshold at entry over the sliding door. If you require assistance for access, please email prior to your appointment and we will do our best to assist you. It is important to note that toilet access involves 5x standard steps.
-
As this is our home, it is our preference you do your business at home, when possible. There is access to toilet facilities within our home, which involves a flight of 5 entrance steps. There may be a few children's toys to navigate along the way!
ARRIVING AT UNRAVEL:
-
Head to unravelphysiotherapy.com.au to make an online booking, if your matter is urgent or acute please email info@unravelphysiotherapy.com.au and we will do our best to accommodate you or make local recommendations to someone who can.
-
We encourage online bookings as we operate without reception. We do have a clinic phone, this will be checked only within the hours of our operation and we ask for patience for a return phone call. Choosing to operate this way allows more time for appointments and face-face contact.
-
If you follow the link in your appointment reminder text or email, you can make a change to your appointment. We ask for 48 hours' notice to allow enough time to offer that appointment slot to another client.
-
Life happens, we understand illness and last-minute urgent matters arise. Same day cancellations incur a 50% appointment fee charge, to the discretion of your physiotherapist. If the appointment time can be filled, you will not be charged a fee. If there is a pattern of same day cancellations, you will incur a full appointment fee charge. Please email info@unravelphysiotherapy for a same day reschedule or cancellation.
-
Allow 45 minutes for initial appointments or longer consults, 30 minutes for review appointments or 1-1 rehabilitation/Pilates.
-
All clients require an initial appointment with a physiotherapist prior to starting 1-1 Pilates. Thorough assessment, medical history, and your current baseline help ensure exercise is tailored to your individual needs. Let's not rush the process, ensuring you get the most out of your physiotherapy session to move well, for life.
-
Dignity and respect are essential to your positive experience at Unravel. Physiotherapy consults involve assessing body movements and seeing parts of your body related to injury or pain. You may be asked to disrobe in a consult, wearing clothes that allow freedom of movement are encouraged. Feel free to bring shorts or a singlet for comfort. Generally, avoiding denim is a good idea! If your pain is running or foot related, bringing your main footwear is an excellent help!
TELL ME ABOUT APPOINTMENTS:
-
Yes, I have experience in women's health and LOVE working with mothers returning to exercise post partum. If you are experiencing symptoms of prolapse or have had a significant tear I can help direct you to one of our wonderful women's health physiotherapists for an internal examination.
-
Whilst I may be able to help and give better than general advice, I would recommend Catherine Russel at 122 Health on Fairy Street for an assessment if continence is the primary concern.
-
Yes I can help you, I have done further training in both Women's health courses, pelvic girdle pain and DRAM courses. I can help guide you through safe, effective exercises to help and appropriate treatment. I have Pregnancy pillows to support you in laying for treatment.
PREGNANCY & POST PARTUM:
-
This is intentional. A room, the lighting, a space can all provoke a sensation, a memory, a feeling. When we carry pain, the constant association of pain and reliance on 'fixing or clinical' isn't always helpful. Allowing yourself to take a breath, sink a little into relaxation upon entry is intended to help your overall experience with your pain, injury or health journey.
-
Certainly, the space has been designed to ensure there is ample space to manourver a walking aid or pram.
-
Absolutely, I am a mother of 3. I GET IT. If children are accompanying you, I simply ask to please limit the room disruption where possible. There are heavy weights and items that may hurt little fingers. Please note that there is a kettle in the waiting space to be mindful of and monitor children closely in this space for their own safety. I have colouring activities and some small toys to entertain young ones. There is ample space for a pram or floor/matt space for a baby.
-
Yes, we have one reformer to use for 1-1 Pilates, rehabilitation, and regaining strength/movement. Unravel do not offer classes in this space but work closely with other local Pilates teachers and can make recommendations and modifications depending on your requirements of either reformer or mat clinical Pilates or fitness Pilates classes.
-
Yes, resistance-based training is integral for muscle, joint, and bone health. We have a selection of weights to help ensure you have adequate supervised practice with your program before performing in the gym or at home.
-
Unravel unfortunately does not have the space to host weight machines, however we can mimic the majority of moves on either the reformer or the trapezius stand to practice technique for your injury.
-
A reformer is not a new piece of equipment; it has evolved over time and become somewhat a 'fashion' item. In the early 20th century, reformer Pilates was designed by Joesef Pilates' to help bedridden patients in hospital build strength in their limbs and spine. From there it has developed into quite an advanced machine, which can be used to help modify movement, range and load throughout our joints via spring tension to aid rehabilitation. Often a knee that cannot squat without pain in standing, can move underload and without pain on a reformer.
No two human bodies are the same, the reformer allows us to change angles, modify load and allow rehabilitation of injuries across the course of injury recovery. It is not the only option, but can be a good option, particularly for aging or injured joints.
Like all pieces of equipment, if not used appropriately or with qualified guidance and teaching, there is plenty of room for injury or pain flare ups. I will always recommend 1-1 Pilates to help modify movement to suit your bodies' needs and ensure you can get the most out of your movement experience. Whether you're new to Pilates, interested in or an avid Pilates goer who strives for perfect technique, I am here to support your journey.

TELL ME ABOUT THE SPACE:
Unravel invites you to do just that, Unravel. Both your body and your mind in this carefully considered space. The lights are intentionally low; natural light pours into both the waiting and treatment space, with dim wall lighting to help calm your nervous system upon entry. Unravel aims to provoke a sense of calm and invite you to be present in this space.
